The role of independent assessments in determining NDIS access and plan funding has continued to be a topic of debate. Here’s what the latest review findings mean for participants.
Background
Independent assessments were proposed as a way to standardise how participant needs are assessed across Australia. However, significant backlash from the disability community led to them being paused and reviewed.
Current Status
The government has committed to a co-design process with the disability community before any changes to assessments are implemented. Participants are encouraged to engage with consultation processes when they are announced.
What Hasn’t Changed
Currently, participants still use their own treating health professionals to provide evidence for access requests and plan reviews. This remains the most important source of evidence for your NDIS plan.
